After qualifying as a GP, I was involved in General Practice and Sports Medicine for 7 years before I started practicing as an Eye surgeon in 1982.

I was the founder and MD of the Optiklin Eye Hospital 1990 – 1998 and later founder and MD of The HealthyEye Clinic 2000 – 2015.

Was part owner, with my wife Esmé, of The Healthy i Spa and Gym, the HealthyLife Health Shop and still is involved in the DivingWorld dive training and shop facility.

In Ophthalmology, exciting times were when I was fortunate to be one of the first surgeons to perform Phacoemulsification, Radial Keratotomy and PRK in South Africa and one of the first few in the world to do Lasik 1994.

Sports medicine and training has come a long way, from the days of brute force to an extremely scientific science nowadays. So did diving and hyperbaric medicine. Many theories and guesswork has been replaced or confirmed by proven scientific evidence.

Nutrition ….  in this field there has been many scientific studies over the years. Many unfortunately biased towards what the sponsors of the research wished to prove.

Lastly, food for your soul ….  alone time, meditation, prayer. This might well be the most important part of your whole holistic well-being.

Professional Societies: 

I have been involved in research and am a member of many societies in the field of sports, diving, ophthalmology, nutritional and lifestyle medicine. I am also a founding member of many of these societies.

Special Professional Interests:

Eye Surgery, Sports Medicine, Hyperbaric Dive Medicine and of course Life Style Medicine.
